Street scenes from Jerusalem.
Although we didn't catch any films in the festival, Sarah saw “The Secret” and “Medusot” (“Jellyfish”), two Israeli films, which she was in-country. “Medusot” won the Prize d'Or at Cannes. It's a really wonderful film that will be distributed in the US in March.
Looks like someone read Mary Douglas...
Sarah's still a sucker for Hebrew Budweiser and Coke shirts.
Old City street scene.
There's no way to capture the ambiance of Jan's, a delicious vegetarian restaurant under the Jerusalem Theatre. It's dark and filled with rugs and old paintings. Evan introduced Em and me, and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
Jan's, external.
Evan and the Gator say, “Hi Falon!”
Evan and the Gator, part II
Evan took us on a nighttime walking tour of some of his favorite old haunts in the area southwest of the Old City. The windmill is, of course, a fave.
Jerusalem at night. We're a short walk from the Old City but you'd never know it.
This social hall was hosting a rockin' party to kick off the Film Festival. A happening place with a view over the Old City. Cool!
Starlight, star bright...
From the Garden of the Tomb, which overlooks the Arab bus terminal near Damascus Gate.
Evan and me! Outside of A Little House in Baka, where we stayed.
Crocs, the national shoe of Israel (apparently).
Within the Old City.
Along the Via Dolorosa, having finished the tour of the tunnels under the Western Wall (HaKotel).
Che -- he's everywhere!
Guards, accompanying tour participants through the Arab quarter back to the Western Wall. We were pretty sure they were there more for herding the group back together than for anything else, as perfectly comfortable as we all felt.
More guards. Gun culture in Israel seems very different from gun culture in the US.
Washing stations at HaKotel (The Western Wall).
Finding a spot for a rooftop breakfast picnic.
The Lubavichers tending to their chickens on the roof. Who knew?
Evan demonstrates “slorking” yogurt -- that is, spoonless eating.
Em made some friends at the Haas Promenade.
Em does tree pose on the Promenade, joining the ranks of TranquiliT around the world (Night version).
Perhaps she really did root herself and stay there all night... :)
