Veterans Memorial Dedication
The new Highlands Ranch Veterans Memorial (http://www.hrvets.org) was dedicated in Civic Green Park next to the Highlands Ranch Library. Among many other veterans and 2 Highlands Ranch memorials to fallen soldiers on the pylons and tiles, the Memorial is where Rex's dad and Chase, Parker, Jonah, and Grant's grandpa, Carl Frederick Geissler, was honored with a tile to his World War II service in the United States Navy. Carl Geissler was a gunnery officer in the Pacific Rim and Japan. His ship was hit by a Japanese kamikaze plane coming in at night that blew up after it fell off the ship and Carl received a Purple Heart for his service that night. U.S. Air Force Major General H. Michael Edwards and Former Governor Bill Owens spoke during the dedication ceremony and current Governor Bill Ritter had a proclamation read by the host, Steffan Tubbs.
