They raise and lower the bars that they're sitting on depending on the speed of the snow and wind up the hill. The more speed they have the lower they start them.

More flying!
As the ski jumper lifts off, you can actually hear the wind below them. I have so much respect for these jumpers.
At the cross country ski venue. Only a half kilometre from the Ski Jumping.

Security is all over the place. Nice guys but don't mess with them.
Some of the landing area crew smoothing out the landing for the jumpers. You get an idea of the scale of the jump by looking at the crew. Note the Olympic rings on the top of the hill. We're not allowed to get any snow on the rings!
A good view of the two jumps.
Wax testing is going on in earnest for the xc ski teams. Here they have 10 skis to test. Some of the teams put out 20 to 30 skis to test at a time.

Media folks practicing for the medal ceremony. The last guy is Tom McArthy.
In the cross country ski stadium on the finish line.
A couple of other volunteers. These folks are working with the media at the games. They've got a pretty cushy job!
This is a cool shot of the landing crew tamping down snow on the landing hill. They keep this formation so that they cover the width of the hill.
