The whole gang at the venue
Basic protection knee caps and elbow pads provided by HH! Well they were good for skating kids!!
All gearing up with number vests for giving scores to participants.
Advice: When you go on a long ride park bike on center stand and stand on the pegs and look 50 ms ahead then after taking a deep breath sit on the bike and go off.
When sitting on the bike bend your elbows at 120 degrees dont hold the handle with straight arms.
This pic depicts that if you hold your arms staright then the shocks from the front suspension travel all the way and cause fatigue.
Holding the handle is also a skill, the grip should not be tight and the hands should just hold it bars in a light grip.
The hands should be a finger's gap from the end of the grip for easy operation of all the buttons like turn signals and horns.
The thighs should be held close to the tank recesses as this centralizes the mass of the person and the bike as well.
The feet should be placed in such a way that the small of the feet rest on the foot peg. Thsi helps in operating the foot controls easily.
The brake/ gear levers should be grasped with all four fingers.
Ride on/off exercise.
Step 1:While striding a bike always hold the front brake.
Step 2: Remove the stand
Step 3: Mount the bike still holding the front brake
Step 4: After mounting the bike apply the rear brake.
Step 5: Take a deep breath.
Step 6: Sit in the right position.
Step 7: Do a safety check, see if anything is coming form behind before moving your vehicle.
During panic braking use both the brakes and DO NOT declutch until just before you come to a complete stop[use engine braking]. Just at the time of stopping use left foot for support.
Wrong way of placing your on the pegs! This way any obtrutions may hurt your foot.
Correct way where your foot is tucked in tightly
Ready for the rumble strips course.
Helpful Sai Motors technicians guiding us.
Rumble strips excercise where we learnt to tackle the bumps standing on the footpegs with bent knees. This way the shocks are not transmitted to the back.
Next up was the rumble strips ( here they were substituted with wooden frames ). When you go over a rough surface the bumps are transmitted straight to your back and sometimes can cause injury! To avoid this we were advised to stand on the foot pegs, bend our knees slightly and incline our body forward, then move slowly over the rumble strips, using the accelerator and clutch in tandem to accelerate over the crest of the bumps and declutch on the way down.
Riding on a narrow planks helps us gain a better stance on the bike. The aim is to ride slowly without stepping out of the plank.
Here we were supposed to ride the plank in second gear without using the clutch. The aim ws to ride very slow and learn to balance our weights on the bike. The important thing to note here was that the mass of our body had to be as close to the bike as possible. So we were advised to keep our knees as close to the tank a possible. This practice helps us in maintaining a more centralized mass when we are riding long disances which in turn helps in reducing the fatigue.
The slalom course was designed to hone our skills with the accelerator and clutch. This determines our control over clutch, accelerate and brakes. We were supposed to accelarate inbetween the cones and brake near the cones. The aim was to cross the cones without hitting any one of them.
