Inside system previously installed. It did NOT stop water from entering the real-actual problems which were exterior cracks, cracked parging on the outside of block basement wall. --Leaky Basements Best Fixed Fixed From Outside http://homes.winnipegfreepress.com/index.php?action=news&step=article&id=24 2nd last para, Internal weeping tile installation is not a good solution in my opinion as the messy and costly installation may affect the structural integrity of the basement floor slab and does NOTHING to stop FURTHER DETERIORATION of the outside of the foundation walls
See vinyl paneling on lower blocks, lower blocks that are deteriorating.More mold & efflorescence on parts of wall, cracks widened, wall bowed in a bit because inside system companies do NOT competently & honestly IDENTIFY homeowners actual problems. U S Army Corps of Engineers Soil Study, residential foundation damage. http://www.lrb.usace.army.mil/AmherstSoilStudy/reports/Amherst-2005-01.pdf
Couple recently bought this house, were told NO problems,no leaks and that the inside system was all that was needed, was A Ok etc, nonsense. The exterior cracks have existed, been open a long time, The exterior should have been done, the money spent on the inside system should have been spent on exterior waterproofing, period.
Inside system companies are either incompetent, don`t understand any of these exterior cracks, problems, defects or they don`t care to because they ONLY install inside systems and misrepresent most-homeowners actual problems w/false claims,by obscuring materials facts etc http://www.lisasellsstroudsburg.com/poconos_real_estate/2008/04/can-you-cure-a.html ...Read what this Architect has to say
Only way to stop-prevent water from entering exterior cracks, cracked parging etc IS on the outside, exterior waterproofing. If you don`t stop-eliminate WATER you can`t stop-prevent mold, efflorescence.Soil gases, termites and other insects enter through these same exterior cracks. $10,000 later, Target 11 investigates.... http://www.wpxi.com/video/15442125/detail.html Another inside system was installed, what does this guy say and see MOLD, look familiar? Come on! http://www.flickr.com/photos/28992838@N07/2708000265
Water entering exterior cracks and other possible openings/gaps most often enters the basement at the FLOOR-WALL joint, also called the cove or cold joint. See this please, http://www.nachi.org/forum/f23/basement-waterproofing-system-42321/ See photos? Inside system installed,it did not stop-eliminate water from WHERE it`s actually (still) entering!!
As usual, the grade was already raised and sloped away and someone already added longer downspout extensions...none of that a) identifies the actual problems, defects b) doesn`t repair/waterproof/fix whatever the problems turn out to be.Some have openings above grade, some have a blockage in the lateral line etc
Exterior horizontal crack.Part of this front wall was done before BUT they backfilled with same excavated clay soil,BIG mistake!
Horizontal crack just above footing, water enters into blocks through exterior cracks, causes mold, efflorescence etc.Inside system co`s will often cover lower blocks or 1/2 the wall or entire inside wall with vinyl paneling or fiberglass etc,all THAT does is hide-conceal the actual CONDITION of the basement wall, conceals mold, widening cracks etc
old gas line not sealed correctly.incompetent.
other exterior cracks,defects...water enters through all these
Verical exterior crack, inside sysem co`s leave ALL these open, they sure do.
