Eclipse - May 20, 2012

On May 20, 2012 an annular eclipse of the sun took place. The Boyce Thompson Arboretum (near Superior, AZ) Photo Club did a photo shoot from the top of Water Tank Hill. The Arboretum was not on the path of maximum eclipse (which ran through northern Arizona), but the sun was about 83% covered by the moon at max. The eclipse ended shortly after sunset, so the setting sun was still partially eclipse as the sun drifted down over the top of the mountains.

Charity

A chronicle of a puppy. Charity came from Central Arizona Animal Rescue (CAAR) near Globe, AZ. She was a stray that was turned in to a high-kill animal shelter. Just before she was to be put down, Mike from CAAR rescued her and started her on her new life -- CAAR does not kill the dogs but waits to find the dog a new owner. We looked at Charity on February 14, 2011 (Valentine's Day -- and thus the name that was given to her by Deidre) when she was 12-14 weeks old. This is when Deidre decided to adopt her (or was it the other way around) and and Charity came home on February 19, 2011.

Wollemi pine (Wollemia nobilis) - the Australian fossil pine. The tree is about 3 feet (1 meter) tall.

Boyce Thompson Arboretum

These are some of my photos from Boyce Thompson Arboretum, an Arizona State Park, near Superior, AZ. These are all reduced size (low res) photos. All photos before November 2009 were shot with Nikon Coolpix 2100 point-and-shoot camera. All photos since then were shot with Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi SLR camera and a variety of lenses. I have left all Exif data in the photos so you can see the settings used.
