Freedom: Franzen's Great Green American Novel
Wednesday, January 19 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room Abington Free Library. Jonathan Franzen’s Freedom is easily the year’s most-talked-about novel, published to glowing reviews and selected for Oprah’s book club. We’ll tackle it, too, as Briar Bush’s Mike Weilbacher and Abington Township Public Library Director, Nancy Hammeke Marshall, team up to dive into the rich storyline. The potential disappearance of the Cerulean Warbler—pictured on the book’s cover—is a key subplot of the novel, as are discussions of mountain topping, Big Coal, and overpopulation.
