Felisia, friend of Swedish physicist, Sarek- and cat-lover Ulf Mjörnmark. Felisia is only three months old in this picture but clearly very much at home already with Ulf in their hometown Lund. Felisia was born in 1991; she died in february 2008. There are more pictures and loving mentionings of her in (mainly) the hiking/vandringar section of Ulf's homepage, http://www.mior.se. I like this picture a lot; it has the right degree of softness, Felisia's pose is great, overall composition is excellent (the hands tell so much) and above all she just looks so happy and at ease- look at the smile on her belly.

Poekie (13 june 1989 - 11 july 2006). Poekie was the 2nd cat for me to grow up with, after Bassie (1975-1989). He was not smart, a bit too aggressive, but also always very glad to sit with me and to enjoy my petting him. Picture taken 6 days before he died; he looked happy and healthy till just before his death.

poekie washing in the october sun (2005)
Poekie died on a humid sticky day in the hottest month ever. He was found very ill in the morning and taken to a vet, who concluded that Poekie was too old and worn out to justify an attempt of recovery. Poekie was then allowed to die quickly and painlessly. After he died, he was taken home and put to rest in his place next to the stove where he has spent so much of his time dozing and sleeping. It seemed like he was not dead, only asleep, but his body felt cold, stiff and dead. A horrible feeI. cried a lot for the poor animal (and for myself).
I dug a hole in the back of the garden, 93 cm deep, and lowered him in. I was crying all the while digging the hole. I can hardly think of a better job than digging when you're in such a state; time did not exist when i dug that hole. At first I wanted to bury his food and water baskets with him, but finally decided they should be on the grave instead.
His improvised cross still stands though it has come apart a couple of times (reassembled just as often). This ferocious little cat was buried with more love than most people can wish for. I think of him often still.
This animal is one of the strongest feeling and most beautiful cats i have ever come across. It (he) was walking around in a backyard on the island of Schiermonnikoog. Besides looking very well it was nicely curious and relaxed. I took his DNA sample and am now in the works of reproducing one of him in my own home. He looks like he's not all too keen of his getting his picture taken, which is true, it took me some effort to get even this modestly blurred picture (btw, i am not restraining the cat by grabbing him in the neck, it is high-pressure petting that you see here).
