Standard strap from old Nikon FE, shorted to length ..
... twisted so that it lies flat when twined around my wrist ...
the bit of extra length is held between fingers for extra stability
This works, but it's difficult to put the camera down fast to pick up a crying toddler ... something has to change ... next, the Camdapter Hand Strap Solution (http://camdapter.com)
A normal 8 cm cardboard tube cut to fit a 18-200mm mounted on a D40x (length: 14.5 cm)
The pipe is a bit distorted in this picture (barrel distortion?) but this is how it looks when fitted over the lens close to the camera.
a nylon bag, left over from a headset at the office..
A handfull of big rubber bands
Nylon bag goes into pipe, cap of pipe follows and closes the bottom. Bag insulates the inside of the pipe and is twisted over the top an bound over the closed end. Rubber bands added to hold nylon bag in place. (and to keep pipe in place in the chalk bag, next)
Camera fits nicely into the pipe and lens will be protected from all sides.
Standard climbing accessory: the calk bag. This one bought specifically for a pocket camera going on a rock climbing trip. (http://toursport.dk/shop/visvare.aspx?varenummer=7964&maerkeid=90&oversigt=../shop/sog.aspx)
Pipe and camera fits nicely into the chalk bag and camera can be removed easily when needed.
For good measure a rubber is added and will fasten to a simple knot on the other side.
Enough security for normal walking.
Heart carabiner to secure the strap.
The back side of the pouch also contains a small "secret" pocket.
Secret pocket contains a Cullmann PICCOLO Micro tripod
Behold: The Quick Draw Hip Pouch!
Inner pipe and camera rotated 180 degrees for fast right handed access.
draw ... and shoot
lens cap is on .. not a good quick draw ..
I am sure, that the movement will be a bit more fluid when I get my Camdapter Hand Strap in a couple of weeks. (notice the prism reflection at my wrist .. that's not an error in the camera but the reflection of one of four prisms I have in the windowsill)
The new handstrap mounted on the camera
Not cut to length yet
The mounting plate is a bit big... the D40x is only 1.57 inches (4 cm) wide and the Camdapter Manfrotto is 1.66 inches .. Live and learn.
The center should have been a bit different for a D40x
Hand strap mounted with a new XT adapter. See how you can't see it?
Handstrap mounted with the XT adapter instead .. a better fit for the D40x
A better fit and the option to adjust the center.
