Motutapu Easter 2008
On Good Friday, Philip, Sue, Rona, Susie, Brian and Des left in beautiful weather from Kohi Beach. We enjoyed a stop on a beach at Motutapu. Lunch was at Matiatia on Waiheke where we happened to meet Ron Augusten cleaning the hull of his launch. He was pleased to see 4 out of 5 of our boats from his stables. The weather was still great as we arrived at Home Bay, and set up camp. Later we were joined by Gerard, Will, Chantelle, Brian and Wally who had paddled solo all the way from Coromandel in 8 hours! Saturday was another perfect day, and Philip, Sue, Will, Brian S and Des kayaked across to David Rocks and Maria Island, then lunched on The Noises, after catching some large kawhai. Gerard had even caught a snapper on the same line as one of the kawhai. We paddled back, dropping in to Rakino where a jazz fest was on the go, returning mid-afternoon to Home Bay. Supper was shared smoked and fried fish with some mellow wine. Sunday morning we returned to Auckland after a great weekend.
