The event involves horses and riders, both elegantly decorated, that perform ritualized medieval manoeuvres in the streets while a steel band blasts out a Spanish beat. As the day progresses and the crowds consume more cerveza and local gin, the mass of people reaches a frenzy, swarming around the rearing horses in an attempt to touch their chests for bravery and good luck.
