CSA Mars Emulation Terrain (4 October 2012)

This album shows MDA's Lunar Exploration Light Rover (LELR) during some tests performed at the Canadian Space Agency's Mars Emulation Terrain. ASRL provided stereo visual teach and repeat as part of this project, and it was successfully tested on LELR as shown here.

CSA Mars Emulation Terrain (20-24 Aug 2012)

We tested a methane-hunting scenario at the Canadian Space Agency's Mars Emulation Terrain as part of the Analogue Missions program. Our robot drove around mapping the site and using two different spectrometers to narrow down the methane location.

Devon Island 2009

This album catalogues the UTIAS ASRL Field Season 2009 on Devon Island. In partnership with the University of Western Ontario (UWO), MDA Space Missions, Optech Inc., and the Canadian Space Agency, our lab took our ROC6 field robot to the Haughton-Mars Project Research Station on Devon Island to conduct robotic geological investigations in a representative Mars/Moon analog environment. We also tested core rover guidance, navigation, and control strategies including visual odometry, visual teach and repeat, long-range localization using lidar and orbital imagery, path-planning and terrain assessment.

Vision-Based Convoying at CFB Suffield

This album contains photos from a field test of a vision-based convoying project at Canadian Forces Base Suffield. The people involved in the project are Tim Barfoot, Bruce Francis, and Hien Goi (of UofT) and Jared Giesbrecht (of DRDC-Suffield). The idea of the project is to have one or more follower vehicles drive behind a manually-driven leader, using only a monocular pan-tilt-zoom camera and wheel odometry as feedback (i.e., no inter-vehicle communications or GPS).
