Tradition Lake & Talus Lake Loop 11-04-11

Five of us 'Senior Hikers' did a short notice loop hike around the Tradition Lake Plateau, near Issaquah. Loop is about 5 mi. Elevation gain is 800 to 1000 ft. Starting elevation at Tradition Lake Trail-head is 520 ft. Trail segments included: West Tiger No. 3, Connector, Section Line, High School, Adventure, Big Tree & Swamp trails. Mike took these great photos.

Reflection Lakes & Faraway Rock 9-16-11

Vera took these nice photos of the Friday hike to Mt. Rainier Park: Reflection Lakes & Faraway Rock: We drive to Reflection Lake, where we will pick up the Upper Lakes Trail to Faraway Rock and Artist Pool, then where we will have lunch and continue back down to the starting point at Reflection Lake. Total hike miles: 4.25, Elevation gain in and out total: 700 Ft., High Point: 4800 Ft.

High Rock LO 9-02-11

Our Hikers had a good workout getting to High Rock Lookout today. The weather was perfect. In the 1.8 miles to the Lookout, we gained 1400 ft elevation. Elevation at the L.O. is 5658 ft. On the way home we stoped and ate at 'Scale Burger' in Elbe. Ralph & Vera took these nice shots. Sheep Lake 8-26-11

We had a nice hike today to Sheep Lake, on the Cascade Crest Trail, north from Chinook Pass. It got to 85 degrees and mostly clear. A breeze. After eating our lunch at the lake shore, we walked around the lake before returning. On the way home, we stoped at Wapiti Woolies for ice cream & coffee. The trail is about 5 miles r/t and 500 ft. elevation gain [400 in and 100 out]. Al took these great shots.

Mt. Freemont Look-out 8-19-11

Today, eight of us hiked to Mt. Freemont Look-out from Sunrise, Mt. Rainier Park. We had great weather and a good time. The hike is 5.6 miles round-trip, 1200 ft elevation gain and rated at 3.

Narada Falls to Longmire 8-12-11

Eight of us had a great hike downhill from Narada Falls to Longmire. We caught the 10:45 AM, free National Parks Shuttle bus from Longmire to Narada Falls. We stoped for lunch at Madcap Falls along the trail. The hike is 4.5 miles one way and 1700 ft. elevation loss. Al, Paul and Sue took these nice photos of our outing.

Rampart Ridge 8-05-11

Our Hikers did the Rampart Ridge loop today. Great weather for hiking, but not for sunbathing, since no sun today. But, no rain ! We started on west side of Longmire Meadows and returned to east side, via the Wonderland Trail. Starting elevation is 2800 ft. The high point in loop is about 3900 ft. Distance: about 4.5 mi r/t.

Skookum Falls 7-22-11

Great day for hike to Skookum Falls. We hiked about 4 miles r/t. Some of us went on a little farther up side trail to base of the falls. We parked on Huckleberry Creek road [Forest Rd. #73], just accross the White River bridge, off of Hy. 410, east of Greenwater.

Eastside Trail- Mt. Rainier 7-15-11

The Senior Hikers did the Eastside Trail today off of Hy 123, just inside Mt. Rainier's South-East boundary. A nice downhill walk of about 7 miles, one way, from Denny Creek Trailhead on Hy 123, along Deer and Chinook Creeks & Ohanapecosh River, to Grove Of The Patriarchs parking.

Greenwater Lakes 7-01-11

A great day for a hike ! 16 Hikers went to Greenwater [Meeker] Lakes Trail, SE of Greenwater, WA, north off of Hy 410 on Forest Rd. 70. According to my gps, we walked 5.8 miles r/t on gentle, upriver [Greenwater River] path. Had lunch at turn-around point, just beyond the 2nd lake.

McLane Creek & Mima Mounds 6-24-11

Today our Hiking group went for a fairly easy hike to McLane Creek Nature Area trail & the Mima Mounds Natural Area. There is about a one mile trail at McLane and about 3 miles of trail loops at Mima. McLane Creek has a large Beaver Pond and creek-side trail system. Mima Mounds are a collection of strange mounds of gravel and meadows that no one has been able to explain, for sure, what caused them to form. We had a nice picnic lunch at Mima afterwards.

Squak Mt 6-03-11

Our hikers had a nice hike on Squak Mountain today. We started at Sierra Ct SW, Issaquah [see map] at 1100 ft. El. and ended up at Central Peak [2024 ft] via both the orange and red routes. Total distance walked was about 4.5 to 5 miles. The weather was great. We ate lunch at the Bullitt family vacation home site. All that remains is a huge snone fireplace. Back in 1972 the Bullitt family donated their one-time summer retreat of roughly 600 acres near the top of Squak to the State of Washington which has since managed to expand the boundaries of the park to encompass some 1,545 acres, plus another 1,000 acres or so of county property - all of which link to the Tiger and Cougar mountain natural areas.

Talapus & Olallie Lakes 10-07-10

We did this hike Thursday due to weather. Great hike to two pretty alpine lakes. Take Exit 45, north and west off of I-90. Follow FR 9030 to it's end at trailhead.Road fair shape, gravel with pot holes at times. Six miles r/t hike to end of Olallie Lake & 1200 ft elevation gain. We did about 5.5 mi. r/t [4.5 mi. r/t to Talapus Lake & 600 ft. gain]. Sam took these great photos.

Bench & Snow Lks 9-24-10

We had a great hike to the lakes today. Sign said 2.4 mi r/t to end of maintained trail. But, with side-trips, we did about 3 mi. Rating: 3, elevation gain: 400 ft., high point: 4700 ft.

Fort Flagler 9-10-10

Ten of us on a special hike to Fort Flagler State Park today. Two hr drive over the Narrows Bridge and Hood Canal floating bridge. We did a 5 to 6 mi loop hike around the perimeter of the 700+ acre park, 150 ft. elevation gain. We had a great day, no rain, pleasant out. Also, we learned some history of this grand old fort.

Sheep Lake- 9-03-10

This time we hiked the Cascade Crest trail from Chinook Pass to Sheep Lake. Some of us continued to Sourdough Gap, above the lake another mile and 500 ft. more gain. It is 5 miles roundtrip to the lake and 500 ft. total gain in and out. We had a nice day. There were still allot of flowers out.

Coal Mines Trail- Roslyn 8-27-10

Our Hikers went to Roslyn today and hiked the north portion of the 'Coal Mines Trail' from Roslyn to Ronald. Weather and temperatures were pretty nice. 2.9 Mi r/t & 86 Ft. gain? We returned to Roslyn via Nelson Dairy Rd. and ate lunch at the Roslyn Cemetery along the way, which turned out to be a pleasant place.

Narada Falls to Longmire 8-20-10

Another great hike in Mt. Rainier today. We hiked downhill, 1700 Ft. elevation loss, from Narada Falls to Longmire. First we drove to Longmire, left the van there, then caught the shuttle bus to Narada Falls to begin the walk. Total hike distance is 4.5 miles. The first part follows the Paradise River, then crosses it & later crosses and follows the Nisqually River. Ron took these pictures.

Tolmie Peak & Eunice Lk 9-13-10

A great hike to a mountain lake, Eunice, at 5350 feet. We drove first to Mowich Lake in Mt. Rainier Park to start hike at 4930 Feet. Some of us remained at Eunice, ate lunch and soaked out feet in the cool water, while the rest of the group continued to Tolmie Peak Lookout, one more mile, at 5900 Feet. Total r/t mileage to Tolmie is 6.5 and 1010 Foot gain. Total r/t to Eunice is about 4.5 mi and 450 ft. gain. We had a great day. Gerry and Richard took these great photos.

Ten of our Senior Hikers' had a great outing today at Chinook Pass. We did the 3.6 mile loop around Naches Peak. The Elevation gain is 600' in and 200' out. Richard took these great photos.

Dege Peak- Sunrise, Mt. Rainier 7-30-10

Hike outing to Dege Peak, Sunrise, Mt. Rainier. There were 9 of us Senior Hikers all toll. We had a beautiful day, ate lunch atop Dege and stoped at Wapati Wollies, Greenwater, on our way home for ice cream. Yum! Richad took these great shots.

Franklin Ghost Town 5-14-10

Our Senior Hikers explored the site of the former site of Old Franklin today. It is on the Green River, near the Green River Gorge, Black Diamond. Weather was great at about 71 degrees and no clouds. We hiked about 4 miles total and about 500 ft. elevation gain.

Pinnacle Peak, Enumclaw 2-19-10

Today our Senior Hikers did a “warmup hike” up Pinnacle Peak. The weather was beautiful, clear, 55+ degrees temp. The trail is a little steep, 1000 ft gain in about 1.5 miles, but the views make it worth while. We ate our lunches at the top, where there was once a fire lookout tower.

Bench & Snow Lakes 10-09-09

Our Senior Friday hikers went to Bench & Snow Lakes in Mt. Rainier Park today for a great hike. It was overcast and cool but we had a good time. On the way home we went down through Stevens Canyon road. The Fall colors were spectacular. Richard took these nice photos.

Spray Falls & Park- 9-18-09

The Spray Falls trail starts at Mowich Lake, Mt. Rainier Park. We stop at Eagle's Cleff viewpoint and also go to Spray Park [an extra 650 feet elevation gain from the falls]. Total mileag: 6.6 rt. Elevation gain in: 940'. Elevation gain out: 300'. High point 5500 ft. Rating: 3 [if only to the falls] or 4 [if both falls & park visited]. Drive Hwy 165 south from Wilkeson to it's end at Mowich Lake.

High Rock Lookout 9-11-09

We return to High Rock Lookout this year. This hike is in the Sawtooth Range in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest with one of the best views of Mt. Rainier, and a view of Cora Lake, 1400 feet below. The is trail # 266. Trailhead and parking is at 4320 ft. High Rock is a prominent 5,685 feet high peak on Sawtooth Ridge with a sheer 600 foot drop on its north face. Hike length: 3.2 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1400 feet in, 200 feet out. Rating: 4. Average cost per person: $6.60. Drive SR 7 to past Ashford, to a right turn on Fr 52 [Kernahan Rd.]. Follow FR 52 across the Nisqually River & keep left, continuing past the Big Creek Campground. Turn right onto FR 84 [High Rock LO sign]. Continue on FR 84 passing 8410, 8420 and 8430 onto 8440. Drive up passing a hairpin turn [left & Teeley Creek Tr. #252] to the high point of the road, on a sharp turn [to right], Towhead Gap. Parking is on left and trailhead is on right side of road.

Source Lake Alpental- 8-28-09

Today our Senior Hikers went to Alpental [at Snoqualamie Pass] and walked up the Snow Lake trail to Source lake, 5 miles round trip, 700 ft. elevation gain, High Point 3800 ft. The weather was mostly clear and about 80 degrees. There were 9 of us. Diana kindly provided these photos.

Noble Knob 8-21-09

We Senior Hikers did the Dalles Ridge Trail to Noble Knob today. When we left home it was cloudy and drizzly wet part of the time, untill we got past Greenwater. As we drove up the Forest Roads 70 and 72, things started improving, even though we were in the clouds, it brightened up and stoped misting and drizzling. The trail started at 5300 ft elevation. Our destination at Noble Knob was 6011 ft. We had nice sun breaks on the way. Richard provided these great photos.

The Senior Hikers went to Lake Easton today. These photos were kindly taken by Richard while doing the 4 mile loop around the lake. Turned out a fairly nice day, cloudy with sun breaks, coolish. We did not get rained on.

Comet Falls- 8-07-09

We, Seniors, hiked to Comet Falls today, in Mt. Rainier Park. It is a steep trail, but worth the view of falls. Today was a misty, damp and sometimes foggy day, but we had a good time. Comet Falls is one of the highest falls in the Park, at 320 feet. The trail is 3.8 miles round trip and 900 foot elevation gain.

Today our Senior Hikers went to Chinook Pass and hiked the Naches Loop. It was a great day. Temperature reached a high of 75 degrees. There were many flowers blooming.

Bertha May Lakes 7-24-09

Return To Bertha May. A beautiful day for this hike. Temps were perfect. We hiked to all 3 Lakes: Potholes Lk, Bertha May Lk & Granite Lk. The road going in was far less than perfect, however. But we had a good time. Stoped for Ice Cream in Eatonville on our way home too.

Snoquera Falls 6-19-09

Our Senior Friday Hikers went to Snoquera Falls today, 6-19-09. Turned out OK, even though Ron, our leader. led us down the unproven West loop return from the Falls. That was interesting, but somewhat rough in 3 or 4 unmaintained sections, crossing over rock slides. Beautiful falls ! Rod took these pictures for us.

Our FW Senior Friday Hikers met up with the Snoqualamie Valley Hiking Club at Four Corners this morning for a hike to Lake Sawyer from 288th St & Black Diamond Rd. Warren Jones led the hike thru interesting woods and along Ravensdale Creek to the east lake shore, where we ate lunch. Nice day for it.

Cougar Mt.- Redtown 10-10-08

Al: "We had a nice hike with Ron leading us on a loop of about 5.7 miles with an elevation gain of about 650 feet to a maximum elevation of 1250 feet.We had Warren Jones join us. He is from Bellevue and knows a great deal about the area hiking trails. Between Ron and Warren, we learned a great deal of the history of the place."

Burroughs Mtn. 9-26-08

The F W Senior Center hikers went on yet another great hike today. We drove to Sunrise, Mt. Rainier and hiked to Burroughs Mountain. It was somewhat cool on top, but hazy sun on way down felt warm. We saw deer, Red Tailed Hawk,Grey Jays and Blue Jays.

Our Senior Hike group went back to Mt. Rainier today for a hike. This time to Bench & Snow Lakes Trail, south of Reflection Lakes on Steven's Canyon Rd. Even though it was overcast and cool at home all day, it was beautiful where we were and warmish too.

Teeley Creek Trail #251- 9-05-2008

This is sometimes refered to as the Bertha Mae Lakes Trail. It is located on FSD road 8410. Drive to Ashford, take Scate Creek Rd [FSD 52] to a right turn on FSD 84, to a right turn on FSD 8410. Drive several miles to near end and trailhead.

High Point Trail-Issaquah Highlands- 7-09-2008

This trail begins just off exit #20, I-90. It is the general rout up Tiger Mt that the old TMT trail once used, with newer side trails and loop possibilities. Part of it follows the old, abandoned electric cable tow route up the mt.

High Rock Lookout- 9-21-2007 & 9-22-2006

This hike is in the Sawtooth Range in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest with one of the best views of Mt. Rainier, and a view of Cora Lake, 1400 feet below. The is trail # 266. Trailhead and parking is at 4320 ft. High Rock is a prominent 5,685 feet high peak on Sawtooth Ridge with a sheer 600 foot drop on its north face. Hike length: 3.2 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1400 feet in, 200 feet out. Rating: 4. Average cost per person: $6.60. Drive SR 7 to past Ashford, to a right turn on Fr 52 [Kernahan Rd.]. Follow FR 52 across the Nisqually River & keep left, continuing past the Big Creek Campground. Turn right onto FR 84 [High Rock LO sign]. Continue on FR 84 passing 8410, 8420 and 8430 onto 8440. Drive up passing a hairpin turn [left & Teeley Creek Tr. #252] to the high point of the road, on a sharp turn [to right]. Parking is on left and trailhead is on right side of road.

Carbon Glacier Trail

“We hike from the Ipsut Creek Campground in the Carbon River section of Mt. Rainier Park & go to the snout of the Carbon Glacier. It is a 5-mile hike, gaining 500-ft elevation to 3200-ft. The road from the Carbon River entrance to Ipsut Camp is now washed out and adds another 6-miles to the hike.”
