2005-01 Thailand
During a business trip to Singapore, I was able to take a side trip to Phuket Island, Thailand, in order to do a 3-day live-aboard scuba trip in the Similan Islands. I stayed several days on a 100' boat, and scuba dove morning, noon and night. Unfortunately, just days before my trip, the world's deadliest tsunami (tidal wave) devastated the entire area. This occured on Dec 26, 2004 killing more than 225,000 people in eleven countries with Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand hardest hit. It is the second largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismographand had the longest duration of faulting ever observed. My trip was just 10 days later on Jan 5, 2005.
