SLA-SD Volunteer Work Party @ San Diego Public Library

Members and friends of the San Diego Chapter of the Special Libraries Association volunteer at the San Diego Public Library's Central Library to help out with two collections - one of historic postcards and one of historic photos and documents - held by the library's California Room.

Here we see moms and kids living at La Roca, a nonprofit shelter in Tijuana. Note the small but well-used onsite library, which needs refurbishing as well as the services of a professional Mexican librarian. The library supports families living at the La Roca shelter and as well as additional children attending the La Roca primary school.

These photos show kids, staff and Corazon de Vida volunteers having a good time during a CDV Saturday bus trip to the Hacienda orphanage in Tijuana. The shelter is home to about 100 young people and 8 adults, including vulnerable and ophaned babies, children and teens.

Photos taken at Casa Hogar Sion orphanage in Tijuana in January 2007. This orphanage currently serves about 90 youngsters ranging from toddlers to high-schoolers, is staffed by 8 full-time employees and volunteers, and is supported by groups including the Corazon de Vida Foundation. CDV is a private, ecumenical nonprofit headquartered in California and founded by individuals including Hilda Pacheca who spent her formative years at one of Tijuana's orphanages. Today CDV helps support 15 of Tijuana's 40 orphanages.
