Shine On Rehearsal and Party - March 2011

Shine On's last rehearsal for the Sussex Festival and Alison's birthday. Alison had brought a fabulous pink French Fancy cake so we all sang Happy Birthday during our break. Our Festival date is on Wednesday 13th April and we will be singing Love Can Build A Bridge.

Shine On Party - March 2011

The Shine On Christmas party - which was cancelled at Christmas time due to bad weather - was held on Sunday 20th February at Lodge Cottage. There was plenty of food and drink and we also played some good old fashioned games which Darren won. Laura Loutit - who has just finished playing the part of Louisa in the Sound of Music Tour - very kindly paid for the party as a donation to Shine. A huge thank you and well done to Laura.

The Sound of White - Jan 2011

The Shine On Crew went to see Emma Dearden as Cinderella at the Theatre Royal in Brighton on the 9th January. There was 25 in our party and everybody loved the show especially seeing Emma up there. Her voice was fantastic and she was so professional. We are all very proud of her and wish her luck in a very successful stage career. Here are some photos below of Shine On going backstage to see Emma after the performance. The last photo is of Emma with Phil who is an amazing dancer from Laine Theatre Arts and was also in Cinderella and happens to be very good friends with Milly up at Laines!! Small world! x

Shine On Workshop with Mel Perry - Oct 2009

Shine On students worked with Mel Perry on an Abba song for their October workshop. They loved the wigs and will wear them to our Christmas Party in December. Many thanks to Mel for coming in to take a singing/movement workshop.

Shine Dance, last day of term - July 2009

Shine Dance had fun on the last day of their term, playing team games and eating plenty of cakes which were made by Juliet's Mum and were absolutely beautiful. We had to say a sad goodbye to Maddy Clark who will be moving on to the Sylvia Young Theatre Scool in London this September. Have a fantastic time Maddy and keep in touch.

Cream Tea - May 2009

The Shine Theatre Trust organised a Cream Tea on Sunday 3rd May which was held in a field by the Southdowns. About 125 people turned up to enjoy eating scones, cream and jam in the sunshine whilst being entertained by Shine.

Sussex Symphony Orchestra - December 2008

On Saturday 13th December the older members of Shine were invited to sing with the Sussex Symphony Orchestra at St Bartholomew’s Church in Brighton. The concert was attended by 400 people and the girls sang Silent Night and I Believe in Father Christmas. Milly sang a solo called Angel by Sarah Maclaughlan. (click to view all photos) The evening was wonderful and the girls enjoyed their experience of singing at such a wonderful place.

Time Capsule - June 2008

Shine Theatre Trust has been chosen as one of two Sussex charities to benefit from the donations made by visitors to the Heritage Centre in South Downs Nurseries, Hassocks. Just one month after the exhibition opening, Jonathan Tate, Managing Director of South Downs Nurseries, presented the Trust with a cheque for an amazing £500! Thank you to all the team at South Downs Nurseries and the generous visitors to the Sussex Heritage Centre.

Tough Guy - January 2007

Tim Claringbull (a Shine dad), has got together a team of 8 and they are competing in Winter Tough Guy in Ireland on 28th January to raise money for Shine Theatre Trust. Tough Guy is a one day survival ordeal with outdoor events held in the appropriately named "Killing Fields" such as Colditz, Tyre Torture, The Tiger and Dragon Pools to name just a few.

George Ikediashi, our own Marathon Man and star of BBC1's Run for Glory staged a one man show at Steyning Grammar School on Friday 7th July. Thank you to George as well as Michael and Ciru James for a fantastic evening.

Katherine Jenkins Concert - July 2006

Katherine Jenkins Concert at Victoria Park , Haywards Heath. 30 children from Shine took part in this wonderful event infront of 5,000 people. The atmosphere was amazing and everyone had a fantastic day. The children sang You'll Never Walk Alone with Katherine and then 7 children sang Do Re Mi with Vanessa Woodfine from Glyndebourne.

St Lawrence Fair - July 2006

A fantastic stall was conceived and built by Shaughan who opted for the country bumkin look! She produced a barn dance complete with hay bales and milk churn in keeping with the lets dance theme of the Fair! The word is she won! So Shine Theatre Trust have the best stall cup once again!

George runs the Marathon - April 2006

Congratulations to George. He completed the marathon in 5 hours and 41 minutes which is fantastic. many people went there to cheer him on including Shelagh, Josie, BJ, Jo, Nathan , Zac, Milly, Jazz, Laura, Shaughan, Hattie and Mel. it was a fantastic day and we are so so proud of George!!!!!! Huge well done!

Dome "Sound of Music" - June 2006

Shine Theatre Group provided seven children to sing at the Dome on June 17th. They were playing the Von Trapp Children from The Sound of Music and sang a short section with Jo Appleby. The children were: Emily Cook, Sarah Cadwallader, Anna Daborn, Grace Stainer, Daisy Scott, Ben Flett, Tom Wardill.

Hurst Festival - October 2005

On Saturday 1st October, Shine Theatre Group performed in the marquee on the village green as part of the Hurst Festival. 280 packed into the tent and then it started pouring with rain!! Luckily it only lasted for the first three songs and the concert was a huge success.

Caboodle Camp - 2005

Caboodle Summer School 2005. Cats The Musical. 22 children took part in a five day Singing, Dance, Drama week to then present a 30 minute performance on the last day. Everyone worked very hard and were fantastic. the performance was superb and we have received some great comments about everyone. Well done to all who took part in the week. Next year, Caboodle will run at the same time in August.

Shine on the Radio - 2004

A few Shine members had a fantastic Christmas eve morning going to Southern Couties radio and singing live on the Sarah Gorrell show from 7am to 9am. Philippa Sutcliffe, Elizabeth David, Jessica Price, Naomi Goldsmith, Hannah Baynham, Grace Stainer, Jenny Taylor and Megan Larner all went along to the radio station in Brighton at a very early time of 6.30am to sing a couple of Christmas carols. They sang Slient Night and Rudolf the Red Nose. Shelagh Urwin was guest of the day and spoke about the success of Shine and what we are doing at the moment. It was a great morning and very good publicity for Shine. I think Sarah mentioned our website address about 10 times over the programme which was fab! Well done to all that were involved in this event.

"Drama in the Garden" - July 2002

Due to bad weather, "Drama in the Garden" was performed at St Lawrence's School Hall, Hurstpierpoint, for an evening packed with fantastic drama extracts by the Shine kids. The dramas included extracts from "Lord of the Flies", "The Wizard of Oz" and "Blue Remembered Hills". Along with a selection of quiz show improvisations featuring much audience participation (George and Rob were invited on stage to become trees).

Kangaroo Youth Club Concert - June 2002

The Kangaroo Club was on Saturday 22nd June in Cuckfield. There were about 20 children with special needs who enjoyed singing with Shine. It was Sam's birthday and Shine had been asked to perform as a treat for him. The children had a great afternoon and everyone enjoyed it.

Christmas Show - December 2001

The Christmas Show was performed at St Pauls College in Haywards Heath. They had kindly let Shine have the hall as they were supporting our charity. We were raising money for Court Meadow and Newick House which are schools for children with learning difficulties. 20 children from the schools performed on stage with Shine and it was a fabulous three nights. Judy Parfitt hosted the show and we raised £4,000 over the three evenings. The show closed with Robert Piatt leading the full cast to sing and sign 'Something Inside So Strong' by Labbi Siffri.

Charleston Concert - July 2001

In July 2001, Charleston invited Shine Theatre Group to hold a concert in the Orchard of the grounds of Charleston. It was one of the first musical evenings that they had held and was a huge success. The bats danced above the children as they performed songs from various musicals. The evening was hosted by Greta Scacchi and was attended by about 150 people. We raised £800 which was split between the Charleston Trust and Upper Mead Nursing Home.

GMTV "Christmas" - 2000

Shine Theatre Group were invited to the studios of GMTV to sing a charity song "Christmas" live in the studios. This song was written by Mel Upton and Rob Piatt for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and overall we sold 2,000 copies and raised about £1,500 for the charity. The girls had a great day up in London and sat in the green room eating fab cakes. GMTV sent a minibus to collect the girls from Hurstpierpoint.

Christmas Show - 1998

Shine Theatre Group started in Mel's sitting room and this was one of the first evening concerts put on. About 30 to 40 people came to the evening and watched the cast (10 of them!) perform Titanic, Feed the Birds, The Snowman, Oliver and many others.
