These taxis literally get a large cup full of gas maybe a third of a gallon then they are off for 20 - 30 miles of driving. The engines are small 2 stroke motorcycle motors that run on mix of leaded fuel and oil. They are responsible for much of the air polllution. An Eastern Politicians View Of The American Government As-Seyed Alavi Mowlana The Governor of the Western Provinces of Sri Lanka a fairly powerful political post. My wife Amy an I visited him in Colombo in 2010 We went to see him in his office to help us in our quest to travel to Jaffna in the north overland. We spent about 2 hours across from at his desk in his office. He agreed to meet with us because of our connection to Bawa Muhaiyaddeen who he knew in the early days. After about one hour of sitting and watching this fellow juggle and multi task signing documents etc. he looked over the desk at us and he said "America they have destroyed Afganistan, brought chaos to Iraq, destabilized Pakistan. We just cannot trust the Government of America." I said "I understand your view totally." A view that is quite prevalent throughout Asia. We eventual left without gaining a passage to Jaffna by road but gained insight into the view that most Americans never see.

This is Ship Mountain part of the area known as Dafther Jailany, at the edge of the Balangoda plateau in the Ratnapura district of Sri Lanka. It is a mountain retreat on the ancient road from Galle to Ratnapura and Adam's Peak. The rock cave mosque at Dafther Jailany is associated with one of the greatest saints in Islamic history, namely Sheikh Muhiyadeen Abdul Qadir Gilani as well as the contemporary Sheikh M. R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral) who lived there for many years in thew 1900'sand is now buried just outside of Philadelphia PA USA . The Saint and Dafter Jailany are linked by more than name: rock carvings, Arabic inscriptions, writings, tombstones an dlegend indicate that the saint meditated at Dafther Jailany for a period, and there are many stories about the saint's visit and his impact on Dafther Jailany. Today, Dafther Jailany is the main focal point for Sufism in Sri Lanka/

Dafter Jailany Mohiyadeen Jumma Masjid is actually an indented cave in a high hill called ship mountain. Sri lanka. For over 800 years, Muslims in Sri Lanka have recited a mowlood or ratheeb (a recital of the life history of the Prophet Mohammed (SAL)) in honour of the greatest saint in Islam, namely Seyd-Us-Sheik Muhiyadeen Abdul Qadir Jailany, popularly known as Ghauzal Azam. Tens of thousands of Sri Lankans are adherents of the Qadiriya Thariqa (Order) that the Saint founded. One of the areas in Sri Lanka particularly associated with the Saint is the jungle retreat of Dafther Jailany on the edge of the Balangoda Plateau between two rock formations known as Hituwangala and Kuragala, where the saint is said to have prayed and meditated. Temple of the Tooth Located in Kandy, long a center of the Buddhist faith, the stunning 17th-century Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is believed to house the left upper canine tooth of the Lord Buddha himself. This precious relic attracts white-clad pilgrims, bearing lotus blossoms and frangipani, every day. History According to legend, the tooth was taken from the Buddha as he lay on his funeral pyre. It was smuggled to Sri Lanka in 313 AD, hidden in the hair of Princess Hemamali who fled the Hindu armies besieging her father's kingdom in India. It immediately became an object of great reverence and was enshrined in a series of nested jeweled reliquaries. The tooth was brought out for special occasions and paraded on the backs of elephants, which are sacred to the Buddha. where it survived numerous attempts to capture and destroy it.
