In the 1970's M. R Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral) stood in the balcony of the Guru Bawa Ashram and said that one day you would be able to see the ocean from here. At that time a prosperous city called Jaffna surrounded the the Ashram with walls of the buildings on the street blocking the view to the ocean. In the mid 1990's the Tamil Tigers occupied the city. During that time the Sri Lankan government laid seige to the city and finally capturing it. The aftermath of months of fighting and shelling of the city was that 80% of the buildings were leveled allowing this photo to be taken on the very spot where Bawa said that one day you would be able to see the ocean 2005.

The climb up Adams Peak from the Ratnapura side takes you up through the middle of the Peak Wilderness sanctuary is a tropical rain forest that spreads over a land of 224 square kilometers around the Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak) mountain. A huge section of the forest was cut down and cleared during the British colonial rule in Sri Lanka (1815-1948) to gain land for the massive tea estates which are still functioning in Nuwara Eliya district. The remaining portion of the Peak Wilderness was declared a wildlife sanctuary on October 25, 1940. Dafther Jailany, at the edge of the Balangoda plateau in the Ratnapura district of Sri Lanka, is a mountain retreat on the ancient road from Galle to Ratnapura and Adam's Peak. The rock cave mosque at Dafther Jailany is associated with one of the greatest saints in Islamic history, namely Sheikh Muhiyadeen Abdul Qadir Gilani. The Saint and Dafter Jailany are linked by more than name: rock carvings, Arabic inscriptions, writings, tombstones indicate that the saint meditated at Dafther Jailany for a period, and there are many stories about the saint's visit and his impact on Dafther Jailany. Today, Dafther Jailany is the main focal point for Sufism in Sri Lanka, and this is the story of this sacred rock cave mosque. Bawa here for lived for many years Photo taken 1999

Kataragama - Buddhism, Hinduism seem to merge at time The Buddha in (Vaishnavism) is viewed as an Avatar of Vishnu. Many Hindu texts including Bhagavata Purana, Bhavishya Purana, Narasimha Purana etc. enlist Buddha as an avatar of Vishnu. In the Puranic text Bhagavata Purana, he is the twenty-fourth of twenty-five avatars.
