When you first power on, a small person greets you.
As loading progresses, the top half of the person rotates around the screen.
When loading completes, the circle around the person is filled.
The first power-on, you're asked for your name. Enter it correctly here or you have to change it from a terminal prompt later.
After entering your name, you click on a person icon to customize it. Each click randomizes the color. You can manually specify colors from a terminal prompt later.
