The start of the hike. It was just over a half mile on the road to get here.
Immediate views!! I demand immediate views.
Crossing on a snowmobile bridge.
It was bouncy. Here is the river.
Followed a babbling brook for a while. It was green. Moss does that.
More green. And wet.
First real view of the trip from the site trail to Bald Mountain ledges.
Ditto.
Nice trail work. Thanks, AMC!
Stowe Mountain. Its ledge-y. But not very view-y.
Pretty, but...
Almost nice.
Dead moose.
Hip.
Backbone. Complete with discs in tact. Creepy.
I tried to put him back together. I see a bad-ass tie-fighter. Or is it more of an X wing?
Finally - open views! On the south side of Sunday River Whitecap.
Breaking treeline.
Nice view to the west from SRW.
Final bit of hiking to the summit. Nice job on the trail.
Check this out. The AMC really outdid themselves. Oh, BTW, dues go up next year. :)
More SRW. Enjoy!
Looking North up to Grafton Notch. That be Old Speck.
And that be Baldpate. I hope so, I'm commenting with thumbnails because I'm lazy.
The summit. Ta-da!
This is what I like to refer to as "The Michael J". I hope you are honored. I drank a quart of milk in your honor.
This has got to be the most expensive "viewpoint" ever. This is taken from the summit. You know, so you can walk to the viewpoint. Without crushing anything. Keep this in mind when you pay and extra 10 bucks this year.
Yeah, summit!
More boring-pate.
Grafton Notch.. again.
A look at the summit of SRW taken from the north.
One of my favorite views ever - Mahoosuc Notch from Old Speck. Unfortunately, it was a little hazy.
Viewpoint on the way down Old Speck. This was much less expensive.
View from the Eyebrow. Wow. Don't miss this. If you do, make sure you look at the road when you get back to your car.
If the AT could make a video about itself titled "I am awesome", this would be the first photo.
A small cave on the Table Rock Trail.
Table Rock kicked serious ass. Best view of SRW, IMO. I'm a computer geek - we love three letter acronyms. Wait a sec... TLA's. Awesome.
View of the Eyebrow from the Table.
Baldpate from West Baldpate. Yes - screwed around with this photo and it looks all fake now. I know. I like it, tho.
Less mucked up by me.
Fond memories of this point on the AT. I was thinking about this spot almost the entire way up. Not exactly a crocodile-tear-on-my-first-time-back-to-Katadhin moment that SkerpaK witnessed, but it was a moment. God, I'm such a sap.
Finally on the top. This place would be nuts if it was 150 feet taller.
View.
Just go ahead and assume Baldpate view for a while.
Hey - its me!
The GLT south of the summit. I mucked with this one too, for you photography geeks.
Lightening Ledge Knob. Looks like its gonna be a good view!!
Um.. view? What a tease!
Oh, the view was down the trail a ways..
Much better.
Cool waterfall and swimming hole at the Lane Campsite.
Upper part of the same river.
Cool sluiceway.
And with this stone staircase does the climb to the summit of Long Mountain begin. Its not that long.
Woah - the famous Town Cormer.
This historic marker has been here since 1988. Imagine, the person that installed this marker probably voted for Michael Dukakis. Dukakis!! Just imagine...
Me, rocking the no shirt. Embrace the hair. You know you want to.
Viewpoint just off the summit of Long Mountain.
Again.
View from down low in the open areas on the southern slopes of Long Mountain.
Getting close to solving the Puzzle! Get it.. solving the Puzzle? I'm on Puzzle Mountain? Solving = Summiting? Oh, forget it.
OK, I know these photos came out like crap, but the view was awesome. So just look and imagine them * 10.
Looking up towards Grafton Notch.
Fun with slabs.
More views and fun walking.
Who doesn't love rebar? The AMC would have put an escalator in here.
Great mountain.
The summit, but not the summit. I guess technically Puzzle Mountain has 3 summits, and they are going to try to officially connect them all with a real trail. I guess that is the puzzle.
Heading down, views the entire way.
Gotta love this place.
Last photo. Hope you enjoyed. I did. Now get out there and take some photos of your own!
