Crumb Rubber In RPMS

Crumb tire rubber being added for the Rubberized Polymer Modified Slurry (RPMS) process. Crumb tire rubber added in this way does not modify the properties of the asphalt and eventually will be released back into the environment and the storm drains.

About 4,000,000 SF of REAS failed in San Marcos, mainly on Mission Blvd. Project was originally completed in 2009. In 2010 the entire project is to be redone under warrantee.

This is a failure of Central Plant mixed REAS, Rubberized Emulsion Aggregate Slurry, placed in Los Angeles County in 2008. The pictures were taken in April 2009, less then one year after it had been placed. The REAS ravelled so bad that the striping came off as well.
